Rohit first-ever international fifty came from a wicket-keeper bat

Rohit Sharma is one of the finest opening batsmen in the world. He opens the innings in all three formats. Earlier, he used to bat as a middle-order batsman. However, he didn’t get a plethora of chances to cement his spot.

He was in and out of the cricket team set-up. However, his career changed drastically ever since he was promoted as an opener. Ever since he opened the innings for Team India, he scored runs on a consistent basis.

Meanwhile, India’s veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik revealed an interesting anecdote on Rohit Sharma. The 33-year-old stalwart scored his maiden half-century in international with Dinesh Karthik’s bat.

Dinesh Karthik was last seen donning the Indian outfit in 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. After that, he made his commentary debut in the India-England Test series.

Meanwhile, the veteran cricketer recalled the incident that transpired in the 2007 T20 World Cup. Karthik sensed uneasiness about his bat after he was dismissed by Shaun Pollock in the first ball against South Africa.

Following that, young Rohit asked for the willow from Dinesh. With Karthik’s bat, Rohit scored an unbeaten fifty off 40 balls. His innings included a flurry of 7 fours and 2 sixes.

Rohit Sharma also constructed a valuable 85-run partnership with MS Dhoni. The then captain scored 45 off 33 balls before he was run out. Dinesh Karthik said he is indeed proud that Rohit scored his maiden fifty with his bat.

“His first-ever international fifty was with my bat. I am very proud of that. Yeah, I was batting with it, I told Rohit, ‘What a s*** bat’ and he said, ‘What? You think this bat is not good enough? Give it to me,” Dinesh was quoted as saying in a chat with Gaurav Kapoor on the show Breakfast with Champions.

“So I gave it to him. That day (need to give him credit) he just walked in straight with the bat in South Africa during World Cup and he played amazing innings.

No credit to my bat, obviously the batsman but still. I remember all those kinds of things and these kinds of things mean a lot to me,” the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman added.

Game-changing knock by Rohit

Rohit’s knock did a world of good as India posted 153 on the board. The flamboyant cricketer switched his gear after India were reduced to 61 for the loss of 4 wickets.

Proteas ended up scoring 116/9 in 20 overs. He was adjudged the Player of the Match for his top-notch knock. India won the match and went on to win the T20 World Cup 2007
