India versus Sri Lanka 2021: Preview for the 1st One Day International

Indian led by Shikhar Dhawan is all set to face the Sri Lankan challenge in a three ODI and three T20 series. The men in blue are without their major stars who are in England for the test series. The Indian team will also see plenty of new stars who have been given a go due to strong performances in the IPL. This tournament will also provide a chance for few out of favor stars to stake their claim back in the Indian senior team with the world T20 coming later this year. The Sri Lankans meanwhile are undergoing turmoil not only on the field but also off the field. Facing India at this stage without their stars could possibly be a blessing in disguise for the Lankan lions who will be without regular skipper Kusal Perera and Angelo Mathews.

Date of the game – 18th July, 2021

Venue – R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo

Likely weather and pitch conditions –

The pitch at Colombo has always seen high scoring games with the teams batting second enjoying a slight advantage. Its been a while since India has played an ODI in Sri Lanka. The weather could play a spoilsport though as there is rain predicted during the course of the series. There is a 50% chance of rain tomorrow. The team winning the toss would love to bowl first and chase down the target as per the D/L method later in the day.

Head to Head –

The head to head record sees India enjoy a better outing against the Sri Lankans. India have over the last few years had the wood over the Sri Lankan team.
